The war is over, but the effects of war are recurring in the region of Gulu, Northern Uganda and its surrounding regions. Parentless children with one survival skill - to kill ... Child mothers with no skill apart from the ability to serve a man at whatever cost - HIV+, some mutilated and disfigured, with no hope and not future. Men without skill, purpose or hope.
Watoto is a holistic care program that was initiated as a response to the overwhelming number of orphaned children and vulnerable women in Uganda. It is positioned to rescue an individual, raise each one as a leader in their chosen sphere of life so that they in turn will rebuild their nation. The model involves physical care, medical intervention including HIV treatment, education - formal and vocational, counseling and emotional well being as well as moral and spiritual discipleship.
Restore Tour 2010: Child Soldier No More
Having built a credible and effective model over the past 16 years, Watoto turned its attention to the child soldier crisis in Northern Uganda in 2007. What we found is a community - children, women and men - left despondent, desperate and stripped of dignity, value and hope.
We are seeing lives transformed through the love of Christ throughout this community. The resilience and restoration is astonishing. Restore Tour 2010: Child Soldier No More is designed to share this story of courage and restoration with the rest of the world.
Through pulsating music, dance, drama and multimedia, the stories will challenge your community to get involved to make a real difference in their lives.
